Oct. 01, 2015 -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Dontan Jenkins (DOB 09/21/81) of 119 East 4th Street, Mount Vernon was sentenced today to seventeen years to life in prison on his July 2015 guilty plea to:
• one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony,
• one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony.
The defendant was a licensed, unarmed security guard supervisor at the Levister Towers Apartment complex in Mount Vernon. The victim, Richard Brown was also employed as a security guard at the building and had only been working in that position for 10 days at the time of the incident.
During those 10 days, Jenkins and Brown had 2 altercations including one on July 20, 2014 after another exchange of words during a change of shift.
At approximately 3:38 a.m. on the morning of July 21, 2014 the defendant returned to the apartment complex, approached the victim who was manning the security guard booth and fired 3 shots through the front plexi-glass window striking and killing the victim.
Mount Vernon Police responded to the scene commenced an investigation.
They developed information that led them to the defendant who was arrested a short time later.
Assistant District Attorney Perry Perrone, Chief of the Homicide Bureau, prosecuted the case.
